Night Owl - Despite the conventions of its genre, I'd say you do a sufficient job of capturing the story's tone. Especially with the casting decisions, director, and writing. This is a familiar yet solid effort. I admired the nitty gritty manner of the material as well.

Shadow Man - This may sound weird, considering the source material, but I found this story to be quite fun and exciting. The idea of sleep paralysis is interesting in itself but when you add the legend of Shadow Man it only makes the experience more mythical and horrifying. Your writing is absolutely top notch and kept me enthralled from beginning to end. I would've explored more directors as an alternative to Arronofsky who seems a little too familiar with this type of story. However, I could see this working as an effective and successful film.

Thirteen Cents - What an incredibly emotional story. I was instantly compelled by the character development and from there the story takes one tragic turn to the next. The Joyce role is my particular favorite. I love how she's the complete opposite of the evil beings that exist within this young boy's life. I felt great sympathy and compassion for the main protagonist as well.

Witches, Salem, History - I feel with a few readjustments to the structure, the writing would match the creativity of the story. I like that you took a risk and delved into material that is very inspired and unconventional. However, it became a little difficult to follow plot wise. Nevertheless, I admire your intentions a whole lot.

Pieces of the RainbowBrilliant poster. However, I need to just say one thing - I am quite against autobiographical baits, because I think it hurts to write something deeply personal and then have it criticized, as someone saying "This is stupid" is not always the nicest thing to hear, because it kinda feels like we are criticizing that person's life and experiences. I've written many autobiographical baits, and the only one that has ever succeeded is The Remains of the Feast. However, while I do not think this bait speaks to me at an emotional level, I can see this is something you are really passionate about. Some of your cast is fantastic - particularly Julian Walker in the lead role. The rest of your cast is good, but I have several problems with some of them. Isiah Washington is someone who I wouldn't ever consider to be in a film about the LGBT community like this after what happened with TR Knight on Grey's Anatomy. Alex Newell is a terrible actor in general (the precise moment he stepped onto Glee was the moment it went downhill, unfortunately), and your cast is just too big. However, there are some bright spots in Wendell Pierce, Octavia Spencer and Melonie Diaz. Overall, I am not a massive fan of this bait. I admire you telling this story, and it is a very important subject, but just on an emotional level, I am not a fan, and creatively, you could've done so much more with it. C+ Glass Jaw
I have always said the sign of a great actor is if they can be used in Bait an Oscar effectively. The last time Daniel Day-Lewis was used, it was in February last year with The Light in the Piazza. I don't know what it is with DDL, but I just can't envision him in our contest. Its not your fault, nor is it Evan's fault for using him last time. It is odd that such a versatile actor in the real world is very limited here. Other than him, I love your cast. Idris Elba and Tom Hardy are great choices for the roles, and Jonathan Banks is absolutely wonderful in his role. The story is fueled with passion, and your director choice is absolutely excellent. Easily your best this month A Night OwlI am loving your baits this month Adam. This bait is so quirky and so dark, and I love it. Kurt Russell and Jesse Plemons make a fascinating duo of leads, and Ron Perlman is fantastic as The Chief. Its not as good as Glass Jaw, but it certainly has an edge and I think its great. I can't say much about this bait, but it is excellent and if you keep up this standard, you'll be winning awards left, right and center very soon. A Shadow Man
I remember thinking Slender was so underrated. Doug Jones was my Best Supporting Actor winner in that month, and I love your forays into horror (by the way, when exactly is Alva coming?). Dylan O'Brien has proved himself (in real life) to be quite a complex actor, so I have no doubt he can anchor this film. Armie Hammer is also great in the role (thank god you used him, because I nearly did in my unfortunate failure Death and Glory ). Its a really good bait, and Liev Schreiber and Connie Britton are very well-cast. I'm not sure I see this as Aronofsky material, but that doesn't detract from the overall essence of the bait, thankfully. Good job A

Witches, Salem, HistoryThis is a very well-written bait, and I think it isn't at all incoherent, its just written differently. Casting is quite an issue here. Alfre Woodard is absolutely amazing, and Malese Jow has a great introduction to our game. Brenton Thwaites is wonderful, and I am loving your random casting of George Wendt in both your baits...is there something bigger for him coming? Here is the part that is hard to say - I wasn't a fan of Lily Collins here. I thought she was great, and definitely nomination-worthy, but I just didn't like her character. Anna Camp just didn't work for me unfortunately. This sometimes came close to looking like AHS: Coven, but you narrowly avoided it throughout Good job, and I think this is definitely one of your more interesting baits B+

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee Even though it isn’t considered a true Oscar bait, the pure passion and heart exemplified not only by the story by the proficient writing by Master Evan Peck Dunbar alone makes it an automatic contender. It is intelligent structured and the songs are of course phenomenal. A
The Adventures of Granny Tulip I literally went through this bait to find flaws because I couldn’t find any on first reading and I was exactly right. One of the best, if not the best bait I have ever read in this competition and I know its going to sound cocky but I will be really disappointed with this doesn’t win because Granny Tulip definitely deserves its. A+ (beyond)
The Bad in Each Other The styling of the two detectives is very tiresome, but that’s the only thing I don’t about the bait! It’s well written, well paced and you capture the essence and atmosphere of the bait really well. B+
Canvass Ezra Miller… enough said! He is brilliant! It is well crafted and I throughly enjoyed the political ins and outs the story conveyed! A-
The Cay Okay for the record, I really dislike shipwreck or anything out sea, as movies and as actually events. So, this bait struck the wrong chord with me. I just didn’t get. It’s well written and I can see it’s well crafted, but some parts just didn’t interested and seemed like stuff I’d seen before. C+
The Countrymen First, this bait is way to long. I found myself like it dragging on, however I was engaged majority of the time. While I think the idea of questioning the profiling of humanity and mankind is a great idea, this one just didn’t seem to work for me. Something was missing. B-
Death or Glory I personally think this bait is good, but Denis Villenueve is totally wrong to direct and that sort of ruined the whole thing for me. Like I imagined in his ‘lens’ and it just didn’t seem right to me. Cranston is good, but I think his casting is quite predictable here. Even though, I don’t think it’s your best, it’s defiantly something quite interesting and somewhat engaging. B
Glass Jaw This one is much stronger than your other entry, mainly to the casting of Daniel Day- Lewis. I really think is strong and will sure make my Best Actor line up. It does have a lot of the boxing cliches which made it slightly predictable, however on the whole I enjoyed it B
Long Walk Home This is a perfect bait for me because theses the ones I a) like reading and b) like writing, so I instantly loved it as I started reading. Maggie Smith, even though she is definitely the uninspired choice for this role, would seriously kill it. Love it! B+
Lost in the Supermarket I’m sincerely sorry, but I really didn’t get this bait at all. Like just nothing seemed to make sure to me. I think the idea of the story is ambitious, but really didn’t work for me. It wasn’t realistic nor interesting for me. Keep working though! D
Night Owl This bait would’ve have worked for me without Refn. He is perfect for this project. I have never been a fan of the mobster/gangster but I thought this one was solid. Quite engaging and well written B
Pieces of Rainbow Such an inventive idea and I loved each story equally. Well written by a true legend of this contest! A
Shadow Man You picked an interesting subject matter and I think you handled it okay, not the best potential is could’ve though. It’s creepy, but it’s board line just weird and stuff that I wouldn’t be interested in seeing with something of this nature (looking at illnesses etc). But it’s well written as always and I think it poses to be a very ‘out there’ sort of bait, which I’m sure we get some good reactions from the community C+
Thirteen Cents Your synopsis is too long and I found a bit confusing. Homeless life is hard and I think you explore the theme very well and eloquently, however it sort of felt like a ‘Homeless People Documentary’ than a bait; like I would’ve really like for you to explore the characters a bit more and really make it your own. I felt like adaption payed homage to the source material (I am not aware of it) however I think it lack your own take on the matter therefore making it not always engaging. But I can see your passion for this bait very clearly in your writing and for me sometimes that overrides the issues I have. In this case, it does C+
Witches, Salem , History The bait has a fine cast and director choice, but I am quite mixed about the bait. It’s not something I am always interested in to watch and I didn’t always enjoy reading this either, however I think it had a lot of potenial that was reached at times, however was not at other (with some underdeveloped plot points and character). However, you are great writer and this will defiantly be receiving some notice on my ballot B-
