First batch of reviews - the rest will come tomorrow
Case Inferno I can't deal with this bait Marci - its just too good. Most people will call this too similar to Dead Simple, but I think its a perfectly unique film. I love Sandra Oh, and I love Marcia Cross in it. I think its some of your best work, and while it doesn't reach the dizzying heighs of Dead Simple, it is still an excellent bait. A
Connecticut Secrets Bobby, you have a penchant for crime stories, and I love it. This is one of your most unique baits, and I adore it. I love Patina Miller in the lead role, and I also think Dan Ackroyd is an absolute standout. Brilliant work - one of your best ever, and a good return to form for a great writer! A
Nothing to Lose Lisa Kudrow and Bobby Cannavale are enough reason for me to love this bait. Gavin Macintosh is also excellent, and I think its one of your sweeter and more heartfelt baits. I love the emotion you bring to your baits Evan, and I think you did a great job here. Could you be contending for your seventh award this month? Quite possibly! B+
Pretty Vacant Okay, so here's a little story - in December last year, I wrote a bait called Yellow Fever. It was a bait about the creation of The Simpsons. It wasn't baity, but there was passion, and that passion brought it some acclaim. This is how I feel about your bait - I adore The Sex Pistols. I think music biopic baits are very rare, and I am planning my own (Lou Reed is coming next month). This could quite possibly be my favorite bait of the month - your casting is stellar, and you tell the story of the Pistols in such a wonderful way. Bravo. A+
Revenge First of all, this is the greatest awards campaign in the history of humanity. Because it was so short, I should honor you and leave it at that - but I won't. Good job on casting Channing Tatum in a wonderfully complex role, and bravo on Colin Ford's fantastic character. Brilliant work, and one that is quite unique and wonderful (that awards campaign though...). B+
Toby Oh boy, I so wanted to like this. You told me about this bait months ago, and let me read a rough draft of it. I did tell you that while it was a step in the right direction, you needed to tone it down, and make it less overtly sexual and disturbing. I am not going to give you trouble for this bait, because you did submit thankfully, but I have to say, I didn't like this. It was interestingly written - it has a very unique method of writing which I've never seen from you. But unfortunately, it is quite sickening - that has nothing to do with you as a person or a writer, but just the story went a bit too far. I found myself cringing at many moments, and while I do enjoy baits that push the envelope - my personal favorite of my own, Strange Creatures, being a prime example. But I felt you went a bit too far with this, and you could've (and should've) kept the spirit of the story, and not made it so explicit. I understand what you were going for, but I just wish you just kept it in control a bit more. Not a bad job, and Evan Bird is inspired casting. But overall, I wasn't a fan. D

first half of my reviews! I'll have the rest up later this evening. GREAT start so far, guys!
"The Undisclosed" by Chris First off I love your cast. They're all basically perfect for their roles (even if Vincent's role is a bit too similar to his work on "Daredevil") and the thought of a scene where Bower, Felton, and Casalegno rob a bank together makes me absolutely giddy! I'm not completely sold on Aronofsky but he could work. I really enjoyed the story as well and found myself engaged in a way mobster baits (even such masterpieces as "The Mobster's Wife") have failed to do in the past. I think this is easily the greatest bait you have ever done. I'm floored. Great job, this is why I always look forward to when you submit!! A+
"Toby" written by Liam I read this bait while it was in development and I really can't say that my feelings for it have changed much. I'm a big fan of pushing boundaries in this contest when it comes to context and style, but there's a point where it can start to feel icky and exploitative. I think you've come very close to crossing that line with this bait. It's not one of your best but I commend your bravery in releasing a bait like this. I know from my experiences writing "Magnotta" and "Softness & Light" that when a bait either deals with certain subjects or is graphic in a way the contest doesn't usually see, it's hard to submit and one can feel scared. It just needed a bit more story, a bit more background, and a LOT of editing. Even when you're writing we sometimes are better off showing than telling. D+
"The Killing Joke" written by Matthew Back in the old days we had many, many Batman themed baits and I'm actually kind of surprised it's taken this long for our new contest to do the same! While most people won't have those old baits to compare this to, I do. This is a very enjoyable bait, and your casting is really good. It's not quite as baity as it could have been, but Sam Rockwell is surely on his way to a nomination. I think that the second half was far superior to the first but I had a few issues with plot holes and continuity that, as someone who doesn't know this story, needed to be addressed (like how The Joker escaped the asylum, who Batman was before he was Armie Hammer, the significance of the old man). It's a good bait though! not one of your best, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. B
"Connecticut Secrets" written by Bobby jesus christ Patina would absolutely SLAY! This is an intense and action-packed bait that lives up to all it's potential. While your writing was a bit weaker than usual (shifts in tense, shifts from first to third person and back again) the story was EVERYTHING. I was hooked from the start and the twist really threw me for a loop. This is one of my favorite baits of yours Bobby, and I love how you were able to put gay themes into this bait and have them not be either preachy or overpowering. I think Milner and Miller are locks for nominations, and the rest of your cast is wonderful as well. EXCELLENT WORK! I'm so proud of you for this bait! A
"The Absurdist" written by Adam I'm a big fan of Noah Baumbach and this bait strikes all the right cords as a story he would potentially do. I think it was missing a bit of the dark, cynical streak that always runs through his films, though. Your cast is indie heaven and while Mark Duplass, Jemaine Clement and Greta Gerwig are all great, Rhys Ifans is by far the standout for me and seems pretty much locked for a nomination this month. This bait isn't particularly baity but it's very well written and I can see it doing very well this month. Good work! B+
"Case Inferno" written by Marci While the similarities to the Dead Simple series are pretty obvious, this bait carves a unique niche out for itself because of how story driven it is. One of the big pluses (and sometimes minuses) of your baits, Marci, is the intense emotions you're able to portray through your use of language and story. I felt that this bait, while it has an amazingly well thought-out story, lacked in emotion. But, it makes up for it in plot. I was a big fan of Marcia Cross and Joseph Morgan here and think they are both huge contenders. This is a really good bait and will no doubt be a juggernaut. I cannot wait to see what Lucy is going to try and solve next! A-
"Pretty Vacant" written by Toby This is a very familiar structure for a bio-pic but it's written very well! I have never been a huge fan of the Sex Pistols but I also never knew this story so it was pretty chill to learn about it. I like your cast although this seems like such an ensemble film that nobody really stands out. My only issue would be that while the structure was very conventional, the story really wasn't all that interesting to me or anything different from how half the rock bands I know of were formed and shaped into who they became. That's really the only thing holding this bait back from being great for me. I don't know if it;s just my ignorance of their music or what, but I never really connected with this one. However I cannot overlook the sheer quality of the writing here. B
"The Weight Of A Man" written by Kevin This was a really emotional little bait that I could totally see Crowe directing and starring in. Your press section put it perfectly in that this seems like an alternate reality of Russell Crowe's reality. While this didn't quite have the awardsy gravitas as some of your baits, the sincerity in which the story is told and how cinematic I can see this being really sold this for me. I don't know about Best Picture, but Best Actor is a lock and I really do think this is one of your most different and interesting projects in a while. Good work! A-
"Sounds Of Silence" written by Matthew We have so many crime baits this month! I really enjoyed this and think Bill and Mark are FANTASTIC! I don't love Matthew Warchus though, as I just can't see how his style would translate here, so that was kind of disappointing as a better director choice would have really elevated this bait. I didn't love the lack of conclusion either, but I understand why you did it, it really does leave you with a certain feeling after reading it which is pretty great. I think this is a bait more likely to receive attention for it's actors than as a best picture, but it's an enjoyable little bait nonetheless. B
"The Squared Circle" written by Adam I really, really enjoyed this bait! The story isn't one I'm familiar with and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, it was that interesting. I'm not sure about Tom Hiddleston but Hemsworth is really well cast and I can totally see Marty doing this. Your writing is a highlight too, and I'm really looking forward to future baits from you as your style is so easy to digest and distinct. Great job, this one was near knockout. A
"The Remains Of The Feast" written by Matthew This bait was so wonderful. I loved every sentence because it was so emotional and real and sincere. A true acting vehicle for Burnett and Eisenberg who both should be in line for nominations this month. This is just fantastic, I don't know what to say. Great cast, great plot, great everything. Good job. A+

Incredibly strong competition!
"Toby" written by Liam McWhinney / D- The title is pretty unfortunate. I told you not to call it 'Toby', but whatever. I also think that this is not the right direction for you, Liam. I do support baits which are brave enough to shock the audience with their originality and ballsyness, but this bait is not among them. This is not your world, and I would really like you to go back for brilliant and dramatic themes like the worlds of "The Accident" and "Little Miss Maybell". You need an intense and smart material to achieve an intense and smart work. I do believe that if you start your next month bait right now, you can achieve something rare and even win the Best Picture of the Month. It's all about the dedication, and this bait is a bit silly and I don't feel you in it at all. interestingly, you poster is spot on and I will actually vote for it this time!
"The Remains of the Feast" written by Matthew Joseph Jenner / A- This is such a bittersweet bait full with emotions and laughs. The topic is very devastating but you didn't make it into a big melodrama which helped a lot to sell the work for me. The story itself is ordinary, but the way you described the events was unique and very intelligent. I liked Eisenberg, but oh my god, Carol Burnett is everything in this! It's not only a well-written and smart story, but also an actress-vehicle! Well done!
"Nothing to Lose" written by Evan Peck Dunbar / C+ I have no idea, Evan. I think I had such high expectations for the project and I'm quite disappointed by the results. I felt like I've seen the same tone in other movies and many times in your baits as well. There is nothing new or interesting in this story for me. Of course it's beautifully written and extremely deep, also Lisa Kudrow is just marvelous, but for some reason, I couldn't love it and I feel bad about it, because I really wanted to.
"The Weight of a Man" written by Kevin Klawitter / D First of all, I dislike the hell out of Russell Crowe. I think he's an aggressive and irritating screen presence, and his acting skills are hardly admirable. I also dislike "big comebacks" and films about "musicians". So boring and pointless. Your cast is not really believable, and the story is just not baity. The writing is good as usual, but there is no emotional impact and the story-telling is kind of dry. You are an incredibly great writer, but I wish to see baits more like "Thawing Out" and "Reel Romance" by you which are both iconic and amazing. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, it's just not my type of genre and idea.
"The Squared Circle" written by Adam Keith / B- Your casting is a bit all over the place. You don't need to cast an all-star cast - give a chance to unknowns, especially in secondary roles. The topic is not my favorite but you managed to impress me with your writing, which is a big deal. It's a very interesting story and I liked the structure too: short paragraphs are much better than dead-long ones, so good job! Aside of the all-star cast, I think it's a very fine work! Welcome back in game!
"Snow Owl" written by Evan Peck Dunbar / A- This is such a devastating story, Evan. Brilliant writing, very strong performances by Sheridan and Hawke and the plot itself is very detailed, which is no offense to anyone, but rare in our contest. You are a very intelligent writer and these young adult baits are just really heartfelt and instructive.
"Connecticut Secrets" written by Bobby Henry / B Bobby, you need to pay more attention on your structure. It's a big problem in most of your baits. If there is a dialog or a monologue, or a quote, or 'someone saying something to someone else', I want to see it signed directly. Despite the structure-problems, it's a good and impressive story and your main cast is stellar. I think you are pretty much overdue of a second win very soon, maybe even this month. I know one thing for sure, this bait would be deserving. Great work!
"The Absurdist" written by Adam Keith / B Very creative title and satisfying cast this time. Some of your scenes were reminding me of my own bait called "Remember Us" - but it's not your fault, you weren't around back then. I love baits of artists and their struggles in life. Art is no longer an important thing for people, so it's always nice to see a little bait dealing with the issue. It's a superb work, Adam!
"The Killing Joke" written by Matthew Joseph Jenner / C+ I mean it's nowhere near Oscar level, but pure fun indeed. I really enjoyed the first half of it, but the second part is a bit weird. I mean not in the good way. Your poster is killing it, though! All we need is love fun, I guess! Fun one, Matt! I cannot describe it differently.
"Revenge" written by Evan Peck Dunbar / B- A very promising story in a very short bait. I'm not sure that I can consider this as a real-life film idea, it's more like an episode of a worthy and weird television series. I cannot really decide if I'm hating or loving your Awards Campaign. But probably the latter. It's hysterical. I laughed my ass off!
"Sounds of Silence" written by Matthew Joseph Jenner / B- I think this is a decent bait and your cast is exceptional, but I didn't love it as much as I loved "The Remains of the Feast". I mean I've read the emotional scenes, I just couldn't feel the emotions for some reason.
"Pretty Vacant" written by Toby Jaffe / B Some incredibly entertaining writing here! I'm really not familiar of the topic so it was nice to learn something today. I think it's important to share new and new stories, even stories based on true events, because there is always someone who's willing to learn. Welcome back and congratulations for the wonderful bait!
"Chasing the Sun" written by Evan Peck Dunbar / A- Oh my God. I love Sara Ramirez to death. Seeing her in your bait is just the most amazing thing, ever! The rest of the cast are also spot on! And I liked the Tagline a lot! I really love smaller films, and I'm really happy that you made one with full of emotions, excitement and love.

Chasing the Sun Oh Taryn Manning, I love you so. I think Orange is the New Black is an amazing show, both because of how well-written and brilliant it is, but also because it has given us over a dozen actresses that have superb talent - I believe Taryn is the tenth Orange is the New Black castmember to be used in the contest - what kind of power!? I love this bait - Taryn has a great role, and your supporting cast is wonderful. Its very heartfelt, and shows just why you're a superb writer Evan. I am looking forward to the Taryn and Taylor Schilling reunion on the red carpet! (Taylor is also in my bait, The Killing Joke). A
Snow Owl Wow. Ethan Hawke...my god. This has to be a definitive Best Actor winner right here. Tye Sheridan is excellent, but he's got nothing on Hawke here. I think you did an excellent job here, and if I'm not mistaken, you have been planning this bait for a long time now - it is wonderful to see it finally arriving in the contest. I adore this bait, and this is definitely your best of the month. A+
The Absurdist What a fantastic bait. This type of film is right up my alley. Your cast is absolutely brilliant, and you did a great job getting the indie vibe going. Mark Duplass is an inspired choice, and Rhys Ifans is so underrated in everything. This is definitely the best cast of the month by a mile. One of my favorites this month. A+
The Squared Circle Like I said in the review for Pretty Vacant, I love passion project baits, and especially when they tell true-life stories of interesting people. I don't know if we've ever had a wrestling bait, but this was a fun one. Unfortunately, your cast and crew is pretty unbelievable. Martin Scorsese wouldn't direct a film like this, and he was quite an unrealistic choice for director. This feels like a fun little indie biopic, when in fact you've written it as a big, larger-than-life blockbuster. I wish you'd done a better job with the casting, because there is no way a cast like this would assemble (and yes, that's an Avengers reference). C+
The Undisclosed I think you've got great potential Chris, and this definitely shows it. Vincent D'Onofrio runs away with this bait, and I love your leads - especially Jessica Marais, because it makes me proud when someone from my country is represented overseas! A great job, and possibly your best ever. Hopefully, you are looking at your second nomination. Keep up this quality of work and you'll be winning very soon! A
The Weight of a Man I am not sure about this one. I dislike Russell Crowe as well, and after seeing Les Miserables, I am not convinced he can sing (even after watching the video you posted, I still wasn't sold on the idea). Its not a bad bait, its just...not all there. I admire you as a writer Kevin, and you are a great baiter who has written so many fantastic baits - this wasn't your best one, but it certainly was an interesting addition to your canon of baits. C

APRIL 2015 REVIEWS
*All reviews are written from an unbiased perspective and are rated for bait quality, how interested the plot kept me, and how each casting and crew choice gives the film a vision. Any criticism is purely intended to be constructive and helpful. All baits will be reviewed fairly.*
CASE INFERNO Denis Villeneuve was a safe choice for director as the story is dark and mysterious like his previous work Prisoners. It was a decent mystery, but I did find it to be a bit slow paced at times. Definitely a well chosen cast that shines light on great actors who have not been noticed by the Oscars previously. The ending was pretty creepy and I appreciated the themes of family and the measures they would go to protect each other. The ending involving the father was very depressing, but its good that you didn't go with the most conventional ending and left it on a rather dark note. The pacing could have flowed better, and while the story is something that has been done a lot in the film industry, it wasn't bad at all. (B)
CHASING THE SUN That was a very moving, heartfelt story that really had an identity with its setting. I saw a beautiful portrait of NYC and the way you wrote those characters gave so much life to them. I really liked the character arcs. A great film about NYC that speaks of hope for the human race. I see this being a huge box office success and a winner with critics. It speaks out to a universal audience. If there is one small criticism, it does at times seem like a typical heartfelt film such as The Blind Side or The Pursuit of Happyness. (B+)
CONNECTICUT SECRETS Damn, this was dark and eerie. I really like that you explored a very seedy side of Connecticut and I did appreciate this being almost like a revenge film from an LGBT perspective. As a supporter of gay rights, I did like that you approached gay characters with a dynamic aesthetic, showing the struggles they go through at the hands of ignorance, but also showing they can also be flawed and make mistakes in desperate situations. The story and characters were great, but I did find the bait to have a few flaws. I'm not sure how I feel about Curtis Hanson directing. I think this story could have easily been given to a much more worthy director. Don't get me wrong, I like LA Confidential and The River Wild, but I think as a filmmaker, he has become wildly generic. I think a more artistically unique director would have fit better. The payoff was definitely a surprise, but the final scene felt a little too typical. The cast and characters were wonderful, and so was the story. (B)
NOTHING TO LOSE This is definitely new ground director Peter Berg and I definitely envisioned this as a technically gritty coming of age story that is fueled by Berg's directing style. I liked that choice. Really great cast and characters and Kudrow and MacIntosh are serious contenders for Actress and Actor respectively. Kudrow's character really caught my attention and her casting was pretty much perfect. I love her arc and how it dealt with her focusing so much attention on Collin and overlooked Cara's talents. The way you developed these characters are their feelings became more exposed was great. I like surfing films and this is definitely a good one. I love that you cast Bobby Cannavale because I think he is such an underrated actor. I wish you would have given him more attention, but I understand that he is more of a background character in the plot and the majority of the attention had to be focused and Kudrow and MacIntosh as they are the primary drive of the story. A great coming of age story that is heavily elevated by a great director choice. As I was reading, I really had a great picture in my head. (B+)
PRETTY VACANT As a Sex Pistols fan, I was very excited for this bait. It started off very strong I love the casting of Thomas Turgoose. He was a great selection! The bait really captured the attitude, arrogance and nasty nature of Lydon. Easily one of the film's biggest highlights. Sangster as Vicious is also a great choice! You really did well in casting small actors in the main roles and having well-knowns like Coogan appear as supporting characters. This is a true music biopic at heart. I see the performances being well-captured by Anton Corbijn's experience in music videos. I will say that the choice of Corbijn to direct is appropriate, but given that he directed Control in 2007, a film about Joy Division, I feel has perhaps worked to explore new territory over the years such as A Most Wanted Man. But, I don't know Corbijn personally and have no idea what he is thinking, so I'm going to stay with my true feelings that he is an appropriate director. Like I said, the film started very strong and captured the subject matter so well, but I feel it sort of left out some of their story towards the end and I was a little bummed out that it ended right when they first achieved major label success. One event I wish was covered is when they eventually signed with A&M Records in front of Buckingham Palace and then spent a majority of their advance on booze and got piss drunk in the studio in just one night. I also wish you would have mentioned the band's performance on Top of the Pops, as that was a golden moment for the band. A deeper focus on Sid and Nancy was also somewhat absent, as I was wondering if the film would cover their eventual deaths. But, given that films like Alex Cox's Sid and Nancy have also covered this, I can understand your desire to separate this film from other works on the subject matter. The actors are very much the highlight here and I am fully supporting nominations for Turgoose and Sangster. (B)
REVENGE Wow! That was one very intense film! It had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. Tatum was great! Really liked seeing him play such an unlikable and heartless character. Perhaps the best supporting role I've seen in this contest so far. I really liked how the story pieced itself together exposing the motive and displaying a dynamic set of characters. Great ending and I liked how you fast forwarded a couple of years later as to not let Troy's future remain a mystery. Again, Tatum was fantastic! A huge step for the talented actor. I do wonder if the film is intended to a religious film, but I assure you it didn't break the experience for me as I am an open-minded individual. I also appreciated how the spirituality covered in the film was from a forgiving perspective. The chemistry between Clint, Troy and Brick was great. (B+)
SNOW OWL That was quite a story! Depressing, disturbing, but above all, it turned out to be hopeful. Hawke and Sheridan were excellent. I love what the title of the film symbolized and this was certainly risky and mature subject matter that was handled well. The twist at the end was certainly unexpected. I didn't see it coming. The setting and the way you described it were really depressing, but fit the film's story and subject matter very well. Hawke and Sheridan are strong contenders for nominations and your directing choice was fitting. (B+)
SOUNDS OF SILENCE A great period piece that expresses a few interesting theories surrounding its mystery. I like that you chose a theater director to helm the director's chair and it really fit the mood and setting of the film well. I love British dramas and this one fully embodied that type of film. Nighy and Staunton were great choices. A well-written mystery that keeps you wondering and the fact that you left the ending open was definitely a risk, but gave the film a deep-thinking finale. (B+)
THE KILLING JOKE I am a huge Batman enthusiast and I know this was based on a great graphic novel, but to be honest, I don't think it translated onto the screen very well. That being said... I have two major praises for you... Sam freakin' Rockwell! Great performance! He is an incredible Joker and Bryan Cranston as Gordon was an excellent choice as well. Both those guys were wonderful. They were a huge savior for the film. I think Armie Hammer was an uninspired choice for Batman/Wayne. He mainly came off as bland and cheesy. I think the levels this graphic novel goes to are difficult to bring to the screen in a proper way. I liked the way you portrayed Gotham and its inhabitants, but I felt really underwhelmed by the storytelling. I do applaud your efforts and I think you have a way with writing that is great, but this particular film just didn't work out as well as I'd hoped it would. (C+)
THE REMAINS OF THE FEAST What a deep, moving and sometimes surprisingly funny film. Burnett was fantastic while Eisenberg has never really achieved my liking as an actor most of the time, I will say that this performance is up there with his more respectable efforts in films such as The Social Network and The Squid and the Whale. I liken this to a family-driven version of Harold and Maude and seeing this dying woman find unexpected joy in her final days from her equally misanthropic grandson was very well done. A wonderfully told story! (B+)
THE UNDISCLOSED Hoooooly shit! I really liked this film! Gritty, controversial and above all, an epic crime story with so much happening. These characters are horrible, despicable people and you certainly did not approach them tamely. Horrible things happen and I see this seriously shocking audiences. Great cast and while at first I was a bit skeptical about Aronofsky directing, I truly embraced him more and more as the plot moved forward. I see this having the mood of Black Swan, but telling the story of the Russian mob, instead of the NYC ballet. This is a very ambitious project for Aronofsky and its execution was almost flawless. The final scene of the film was brilliant and golden! (A-)
THE WEIGHT OF A MAN This film its a little close to the story of Crazy Heart, but I can see the musical aspect of it containing some great songs. I liked vision of a parade of fans following Keith to the concert that played in my head as I was reading, but the story was a little too typical and generic. Big ups on Crowe as I feel he has it in him to perform in great roles and I liked the exchanges between Keith and Leonore. This wasn't a bad bait, but I think it could have been a bit more separated from other films about musicians. (B-)
TOBY I see where this is a story about a young kid who develops a sex addiction at a young age through his discovery of self-pleasure, but at times it sort off felt like a very depressing prequel to Don Jon. I felt there was no depth to the character of Toby and I wonder how much of the film's run time would be footage of him pleasuring himself. I got a bit bored with all of it. I felt there was also no real resolution, but simply some mysterious implication that he killed himself because he couldn't get off anymore? I was a bit confused by the ending. I have to be forward and honest and say that I'm not a big fan of this bait and it needed to give its title character a little more than a plot focusing on the different ways he pleases himself. Any criticism I have for this bait is purely intended to be constructive. I think you are a great writer but every great writer has a bad bait or two in them. Sadly, this is one of those. I have much hope for your future work and I think this one is just a small fork in the road. (D+)

Nothing to Lose - the premise here is solid and Peter Berg is an excellent choice as director, but there's little in this bait that really reads as spectacular, aside from Kudrow's performance. I feel like I've seen this sort of thing before, and there's little in the bait to add a unique perspective to it. Your writing is excellent, though.
The Remains of the Feast - I really like the one. Carol Burnett and Jesse Eisenberg sound like they would have wonderful chemistry, and the characters are well written, though Eisenberg's could stand to be a bit more well defined. Still, a charming and emotional bait.
Snow Owl- Perfect material for Debra Granick, and Tye Sheridan and Ethan Hawke are perfectly cast. The story is well constructed and moving, and aside from the sorta farfetched twist, everything feels right. One of my favorite baits of the month.
The Absurdist- classic indie material: light, charming, and a perfect part for Mark Duplass. I can't say much against this bait... Its straightforward nature is both a benefit and a drawback, but I can definitely see it as a funny and successful movie.
Connecticut Secrets - I like the Rashomon-like structure and the wide collection of characters and actors you've assembled, but the outlandish story just didn't seem believable to me. I didn't quite understand the jumps of logic the detective made, and overall the motivations were a little muddled. Your structure is imaginative, though, and I liked the against type casting of Dan Aykroyd.
Revenge - your writing is excellent as always and your cast is great, but I can't help but feel like there's something missing, like if the screw was twisted one more time the story could have been expanded into something really crazy and Tarantino-esque. That said, this is really exciting simply as a short story, and I loved the simplicity of your awards campaign.
The Killing Joke - Sam Rockwell as The Joker... PERFECT F'ING CASTING!!! In fact, all of your casting is perfect... Cranston and Hammer are a little obvious, but I never would have thought about Kelly Reilly as Barbara Gordon - excellent! The plot has some gaps in it (although having read the GN, that wasn't a real problem for me, but your writing is vivid and evocative, and playing the whole thing from the perspective of The Joker was a wise choice.
The Squared Circle - Wresting is a sort of funny thing for me... I've never really watched it, but I find reading about the history and power struggles involved (both Kayfabe and otherwise) to be totally fascinating. As a result, this could well be the perfect wrestling bait for a guy like me. Huddleston and Hemsworth are inspired picks for their parts, Liam Neeson sounds like he'd dig in to the Vince role, and Max Landis as screenwriter is absolutely PERFECT. A great, creative bait, and one of my favorites of the month.

Sounds of Silence While director Matthew Warchus completely misses the mark in terms recreating the this mysterious, dark murder story, the terrific ensemble makes up for the film’s stylistic faults, led eloquently by the great Bill Nighy and other seasoned pros. Case Inferno Those who think this is ‘Dead Simple 2.0’ are wrong. While it doesn’t exactly live up to the hype or quality of Dead Simple, the story is challenging and captivating with a strong, winning performance by Sandra Oh. Chasing The Storm While the story is simple, the emotional complexities are so eloquently portrayed through a true ensemble headed by the underrated Taryn Manning who steals the screen. Connecticut Secrets Broadway sweetheart Patina Miller tears up the screen in a role destined for Oscar Glory. Solid work and return to form by the lovely Bobby Henry. Nothing to Lose Lisa Kudrow soars in this emotional and passionate bait, well crafted and eloquently written. Pretty Vacant While definitely entertaining, the bait suffered from slightly uneasy structuring and writing mechanics. However the pure passion-project developing over the stories over the ‘Sex Pistols’ is enough to satisfy audience and move past these small, alms insignificant flaws. The Undisclosed Excellent writing by up incoming writer Gizmo that I think deserves him the BP Prize. Well written and a great cast! The Remains of the Feast Carol Burnett, a vertan actress lead this emotional, gripping story. Kinda of reminds of Seasons of Life in a weird, but great way. This is a very ME bait and I love it! One of the best of the months! The Killing Joke I have never been a fan on superheroes, so I didn’t get this bait, but I do see the fun-filled passionate sensibility you demonstrated for it . Sam Rockwell also gives one of the most inspiring performance of the month. The Weight of A Man While I usually like baits about music, I must say this is an exception. While it is well-written, it lacks heart and captivity for the audience, often drifting into plots and characters that don’t seem have much importance or scope. Solid bait though. The Squared Circle You write very well. I must agree if what a couple people have said and say you write very eloquently and it flows very well. I don’t think this a particularly interesting or challenging stories (sort of followed the same points of many other wrestling movies) but I think they way you wrote it made it captivating and I think that’s a very good quality to have. Snow Owl Nothing sort of brilliant. Well written, great cast… When you think Evan can’t get any better, he suddenly does! I would start clearing room on your BP mantle The Absurdists I love this sorts of baits, dealing with creative people and there struggles for survival, from only only from a physical stand point, but psychologically also. Great cast! Solid job! Revenge Definitely intense, with a glowing surprising turn by Channing Tatum, who I will surely be supporting in his respective category. Solid bait!

Case Inferno by Marci K. Marci your gift for story telling and crafting a bait always amazes me and it is no different this month, while I do feel some similarities to the genius Dead Simple, I am willing to put that aside because of the radiance that this bait gives! I must say I adore your ability to take actresses/actors like Sandra Oh and create such interesting material. Great Job this week.
Nothing to Lose by Evan D. Evan I like this from you. You always amaze me with your baits! You write with such a passion and the fluidity of your story always captivates its reader. While this is one of your weaker baits for me it still succeeds. My favorite here is the fabulous Lisa Kudrow, she would completely annihilate this role in a good way! Gavin Macintosh and Bobby Cannavale are sensational as well, Great cast, and a nice story. nice job !
Pretty Vacant by Toby Wow! Toby this is fabulous. I don't know anything about the Sex Pistols and am sort of ignorant about that genre of music. However this bait engaged me, and really educated me on how things might work in a rock band. I thought it was brilliantly crafted, and perfectly executed. One of the best this month Bravo!
Revenge by Evan D. So happy that you used Channing here. I think he would be amazing in this role. This is so unique and weird but in a great way! Your awards campaign is simply magnificent and is what sold me on this bait! Great work Evan!
Snow Owl by Evan D. I have no words for this one Evan! At first I was feeling it was a bit unrealistic because I don't feel like Young Adult movies fair well at the actual Academy Awards! HOWEVER, the passion, detail, and heart used to write this masterpiece is what wins it over for me. Sheridan and Hawke are inspired and will give devastatingly amazing performances. This one really touched and moved me, and that's hard to do through writing!
Sounds of Silence by Matthew I think this is a good one Matthew! I really like your cast and the story, and I was engaged the whole time! While I do not feel like it's your best work this month I still thought it was entertaining and moving. I admire you as a writer because you write about things you care about!
The Absurdist by Adam I really like this Adam! I have such a passion for art and feel that it is such an important form in our society that always goes ignored. Weather it's simplistic or more abstract forms! Art is something that gives people the opportunity to express themselves. You're bait really touched me and really made me feel something, I was impressed with the structure but also the heart behind this! Great job.
The Killing Joke by Matt I like this one Matthew. I hope that's okay me calling you Matthew. But I think this is really special and inventive. I thought the first half of this bait was simply brilliant, and the second half although unique just simply brilliant and inspired. I think you have a true gift and although this isn't a super baity bait, sometimes those are the most successful because they don't throw it in your face. I loved it! Good job!
The Remains of the Feast by Matt Now this is what I call a bait! Wow, I laughed I cried. I read it 3 times I think this may be one of my favorites ever. Carol Burnett enough said! Matthew this is just divine. I can't say Nothing more other than Incredible work.
The Squared Circle by Adam Keith I don't dislike this as much as everyone else! While I do think the cast is a little much, and Scorsese is a bit of a stretch, I could see the passion and motivation in your writing and that engaged me. Often times I may not like the topic or the cast but a writer can win me over with their writing, and you did that! I could tell this is a passion project for you, and that you had a lot of fun writing this and that's what this contest is about! So although I had a few problems with it, I overall think you achieved what you wanted it to be, and that's all that matters.
The Weight of a Man by Kevin Kevin I don't like Russell Crowe. However I think he does have the ability to turn in good performances with the right material, and I do think he would succeed here. Now I'm not overall crazy about the story, and it didn't grab or interest me as much as your other works. But I think it's well written and solid. I commend you on being a dedicated writer, and writing things that inspire and move you. Great job!
Toby by Liam McWhinney While I think this bait had the potential to be a masterpiece and one of the best baits ever submitted for me it simply doesn't work. When dealing with subject matter like this you need to be really careful on how you present it and how you tell the story. For me I didn't see the addiction it was there and you did make it obvious but I wanted to feel like this was destroying Toby and is didnt necessarily get that, even though you wrote it. I think you have such amazing and inventive ideas, Norths Girl and Little Miss Maybelle are some of my favorite works ever in this competition. While I appreciate risks I think you do best with heart warming baits. That's your niche. Good job Liam.
Chasing the Sun by Evan Dunbar My god Evan Peck Dunbar you have simply floored me. This bait is a godsend and with Taryn Manning at the helm it really will make for an emotional touching story. I am so happy you gave her a material where she could really shine because she is simply superb in almost everything she does! Bravo. I appreciate you for writing things that are important and for continuing to educate your readers and using passion, details, and heart to grab our heartstrings
The Undisclosed by Chris G Chris first off, this is by far your best work. This is where you succeed please stay here! Secondly I am in awe of this story. It's eeiry, interesting, heart wrenching and left me on the edge of my seat. Your casting and director choice is simply brilliant! I think you have earned your second nomination for sure, and maybe even a win. This is a fabulous work and I cannot wait to read more baits like this from you. Btw the ending is just WOW! Bravo!

Chasing the Sun - This bait plays perfectly into Scott Cooper's talent for capturing a specific place and a blue-collar existence. The story is powerful, and the details feel just right. Manning and Rylance are perfect for their roles as well.
Toby - Sex addiction is a tricky subject to pull off (so to speak), and unfortunately, this bait misses the mark. The melodrama and lurid writing while not QUITE saying exactly what was going on makes it feel uncannily like a Lifetime movie. I applaud your audacity, but think it could have been better executed.
Pretty Vacant - once again my general lack of knowledge about music is crippling to my ability to review a bait. The characters are strongly defined, especially Rotten and Viscious, and the wheeling structure keeps the attention very well. Turgoose and Sangster are sure to get Oscar nominated.
Sounds of Silence - I'm reminded of Zodiac a lot with this bait, and that is very much a good thing. The way you gradually share details about the central figures' lives is a little disorientating at first, but also really interesting after you get used to it. The central mystery and trial is fascinating, and I like how you avoid speculative fiction. A very effective bait.
The Undisclosed - This sort of gritty, intense crime story seems like a good fit for Aronofsky, and Power and D'onofrio are standouts. The story kind of reminded me of a Russian take on "Sin Nombre", though I think the large amount of rapes in the story makes it teeter dangerously close to exploitation.
Case Inferno - You've proven time and time again how good you are at crime stories, and basing this one around a long-term investigation and disappearance is a very nice choice. I was reminded of " The Secret in Her Eyes" and even my own bait "Holly". My only real criticism is that unlike some of your previous heroines, Det. Lucy Armon doesn't have many distinctive character traits aside from her dedication to solve the case. Sandra Oh is wonderful casting, though
